New Chiefs for N.Y.C. DOT, DASNY, N.Y.C. Transit

Changeover for state agencies comes as Spitzer appointees take office.

NEW HIRES

Janette Sadik-Kahn has been appointed commissioner of the New York City Department of Transportation. Kahn was formerly a deputy administrator for the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration and most recently served as transit industry director for New York-based PB.

David Brown IV has been named executive director of the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York after having served as chief of the Investment Protection Bureau for the New York State Attorney General.

Nicholas Cavaluzzi has been named director of construction services for Berger Lehman Associates, a transportation consulting firm in Rye, N.Y.

Howard Roberts Jr. has been named president of New York City Transit, more than 20 years after leaving a prior post as head of the agency’s bus operations.

Lawrence Britt has been hired by Caithness Long Island LLC as construction manager for Caithness Long Island Energy Center, the firm’s planned natural gas-fired power plant in Brookhaven, N.Y.

Lynn Kelly has been hired as president and the first official employee of the Coney Island Development Corporation. She previously had served as vice president for special projects at the New York City Economic Development Corporation.

Alan Fishman, former president and COO of Sovereign Bank, has been named chairman of Meridian Capital Group. Also, the firm hired Lee Bienstock – a one-time finalist on “The Apprentice,” Donald Trump’s broadcast television show – as its new director of business development.

Drew Delle Donne has joined Hardesty & Hanover, a New York-based structural, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering firm, as architect.

Naresh Chopra has been hired as senior vice president of purchasing and estimating at IBEX Construction, a New York-based corporate, institutional, retail, and residential construction manager.

Hadley Pawlak has been hired as chief of staff for the Upstate New York office of the Empire State Development Corporation.

Roland Lewis has been named president and CEO of the Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance, an independent nonprofit organization that previously had been an arm of the Municipal Art Society.

Joseph Bartels and Chris Richichi have been hired by New York-based Edwards & Zuck, a consulting engineering firm, to head up its Stamford office.

PROMOTIONS

Jonathan Resnick has been promoted to president of Jack Resnick & Sons, the family-owned real estate development company started by the Resnicks in 1928.

Timothy O’Brien, manager of the Poughkeepsie office of BL Cos., has been named a principal of the Meridian, Conn., consulting firm.

Philip Monastero has been promoted to partner in charge of design for Baldassano Architecture of Ronkonkoma, N.Y. In addition, Alex Badalmenti has been promoted to managing partner and CFO Tom Cromer has been named partner.

Josephine Coleman has been promoted to associate and Veronica Quintero to Project Architect I at Studio 5 Partnership of Glen Rock, N.J. The firm also hired Matthew Schappert and Jody Schornstein as Project Architect I, Andrew Meletta as Project Architect II, and Rafael Perez as Project Architect III.

HONORS AND APPOINTMENTS

Jane Smith, founder and CEO of Spacesmith, an architecture and interior design firm in New York, has been named chair of the BFA Interior Design Department for the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan.

Michele Medaglia, president and CEO of ACC Construction of New York, has been honored by the Mann Foundation as a leader in the construction and real estate community. The organization is dedicated to raising money for Alzheimer’s disease research.

Stephan Butler has been named Young Engineer of the Year by the northern New Jersey branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Robert Peckar, founding partner of New York-based Peckar & Abramson, has been named the Who’s Who Legal Awards Construction Lawyer of the Year for 2007, the second year in a row that he has won the honor.

COMPANY NEWS

Samoo Architecture, the design arm of Samoo Architects & Engineers of Seoul, Korea, will be opening its first U.S. office in the New York Times Building, currently being constructed at 620 Eighth Ave. in Manhattan. The company has leased 5,300 sq ft on the 38th floor.

Turner Construction of New York has been given the 2007 Corporate Leadership Award by the National Minority Supplier Development Council for awarding 2,800 contracts totaling more than $1 billion to minority- and women-owned businesses.

STV Inc. was honored by the New York Landmarks Conservancy for the renovation of the Coney Island Parachute Jump Tower.

Sawyer/Berson Architecture & Landscape Architecture of New York and Wesley Stout Associates, New Canaan, Conn., both won Honor Awards in the residential design category of the 2007 Professional Awards presented by the American Society of Landscape Architects. Sawyer/Berson was noted for its “Manhattan Roof Terrace” project in New York, while Wesley Stout was honored for its “Connecticut Country House” in Westport.
