Design Firms Busy Promoting Senior Staff

Thornton Tomasetti, FXFowle, Cannon, Severud, SBLM, the Thomas Group, and LBG all announce moves.

NEW HIRES

Ted Rotante has joined GVA Williams, a national commercial real estate services firm based in Manhattan, as senior managing director. The firm also hired P.J. Sala as managing director, Eric LaCoursiere as associate director, Cory Albrycht as associate, Ward Bitter as investments analyst, and Andrew Connolly as associate.

Carl Trop has been named vice president of Douglaston Development, a real estate development company specializing in residential and mixed-use projects in New York. 

Arthur Debowy has joined STV Inc., a planning and design firm headquartered in New York, as vice president and director of terminal planning and design with the firm’s national transportation and infrastructure division.

Edward Cohen has joined SBLM Architects, a New York-based architectural firm, as director of facilities and transportation projects.

Steven Rutter has been hired by Stribling Marketing Associates, a real estate development consultant and marketing group based in New York, as executive vice president and managing director.

Andrew McKessey has been hired as controller by Falcon Pacific Construction, the construction affiliate of New York-based Swig Equities, a real estate developer.

Michael Feigin has joined Marsh Inc., a risk and insurance services firm headquartered in New York, as the firm’s global construction practice leader.

Claudia Andrea Saavedra Meza and Maria del Pilar Toro-Ortiz have been hired as designers in the New York headquarters of Horton Lees Brogden Lighting Design, a lighting design firm.

PROMOTIONS

Keith Shortsleeve and Michael Susca have been promoted to associate in the Farmington, Conn., office of Leggette, Brashears & Graham, a groundwater and environmental engineering services firm based in Shelton, Conn.

Anjana Kadakia has been promoted principal of the Newark office of Thornton Tomasetti, an engineering and design firm based in New York. It also promoted Sorin Moisi to senior vice president of the New York office.

John Major has been promoted to vice president of Cannon Design, an engineering and planning design firm based in Grand Island, N.Y.

Carl Hauser and John Loughran have been promoted to senior associate at FXFowle Architects, an architectural firm based in New York. It also promoted Biju Chirathalattu, Stefan Dallendorfer, Brian Fanning, and Heng-Choong Leong to associate.

Matthew McCarty has been promoted to manager of the in-house structural engineering department at the Thomas Group, an architecture and engineering firm based in Ithaca, N.Y., that specializes in K-12 educational design. It also promoted Pamela Hamel to architectural operations manager and Kevin Terry to engineering operations manager.

Ray Sohmer has been appointed senior managing director for New Jersey operations in the Saddle Brook, N.J., offices of CB Richard Ellis, a commercial real estate services firm headquartered in Los Angeles. The firm tapped Tom Krieger to replace Sohmer as managing director for CBRE’s central New Jersey office. 

Carey Ngai and Fortunato Orlando have been promoted to associate principal at Severud Associates, a consulting engineering firm based in New York. Mansukh Jariwala, Ick Kim, Michaela Moscu, and Chi ”Grace” Yau have been promoted to associate.

HONORS AND APPOINTMENTS

Stephen Ross, chairman and CEO of the Related Cos., has been appointed to a two-year term as chairman of the Real Estate Board of New York. He succeeds John Zuccotti.

Philip White, chair of the construction law practice group and co-chair of the litigation practice group at Sills Cummis Epstein & Gross of Newark, N.J., has been named Member of the Year by the Design-Build Institute of America’s New York Tri-State Metro Chapter.

Stephan Butler has been named a Congressional Fellow for 2006-2007 by the American Society of Civil Engineers and American Association for the Advancement of Science, as well as a Legislative Fellow for U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu of Louisiana. 

Kathy O’Malley, director of business development and marketing at JRS Architect, an architectural design firm based in Mineola, N.Y., has been appointed to the board of directors of the Long Island Chapter of CoreNet Global, an international corporate real estate association headquartered in Atlanta.

Cosema “Connie” Crawford, senior vice president and chief engineer in New York City Transit’s Department of Capital Program Management, has received the 2006 Distinguished Owner Award from the Construction Management Association of America.

Robert Silman of Robert Silman Associates, a New York engineering firm, has been awarded the annual Landmarks Lion award by the Historic Districts Council, an advocacy group for New York City’s designated historic districts and for neighborhood preservation.

Gustavo Lima, associate principal at Cannon Design, an engineering and planning firm based in Grand Island, N.Y., near Buffalo, has won a Professional Achievement Award from Hispanics United of Buffalo, a community outreach and support group.

John Ritter of Sholom & Zuckerbrot Realty of Long Island City in Queens will serve as the 2006-2007 president of the Industrial and Office Real Estate Brokers Association of New York.

Jack Lettiere, senior vice president of Edwards and Kelcey, an engineering, design, planning, and construction management firm based in Morristown, N.J., has received the Thomas H. MacDonald Memorial Award from the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.

Frank Lombardi, chief engineer for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, has received the Dr. John L. Buzzi Engineering Excellence Award from the New Jersey Alliance for Action.

Howard Graf, founding partner of Graf & Lewent, a New York-based architectural practice, has received the Queens Chamber of Commerce’s 2006 Business Person of the Year award for his contributions to the borough’s business community.

David DeLizza of Pennoni Associates, a consulting engineering firm headquartered in Philadelphia, has been named the Civil Engineer of the Year for 2006 by the South Jersey American Society of Civil Engineers.

COMPANY NEWS

STV Group, an engineering, architectural, and construction management firm based in Douglassville, Pa., has acquired Ralph Whitehead Associates, a civil and transportation engineering firm in Charlotte, N.C.  STV Group is the parent of New York-based STV Inc.

DMJM Harris of New York and Los Angeles recently acquired Korve Engineering, a civil engineering and planning firm in Oakland, Calif.

JRS Architect, an architectural firm based in Mineola, N.Y., announced that it will acquire Soffes Wood, a design firm based in New York. JRS also has offices in Princeton, N.J.
