Jerome Belson, chairman of Jerome Belson Enterprises
and president of the Associated Builders & Owners of Greater
New York, has been inducted to the New York State Builders
Association Hall of Fame. Jerome Belson has been active in
New York City's Housing and Real Estate Industries for over
five decades developing and managing major affordable housing
developments including: Roosevelt Island, Independence Plaza
and Metro North Riverview Houses. His company manages over
15,000 housing units throughout New York City.
Dickie Sykes, assistant vice
president of diversity and community affairs at AMEC, has
been named the Minority Enterprise Development Advocate of
the Year for 2003 by the U.S. Department of Commerce. Under
Sykes's leadership, AMEC has awarded more than $900 million
in contracts to minority and women-owned businesses. Sykes
plans, develops, coordinates, and supervises affirmative action,
anti-harassment prevention, and diversity awareness training
seminars for AMEC, an international engineering services and
construction management firm.
Arbonies King Vlock, has promoted
Leigh Anne Jones to Associate Principal, the Connecticut architectural
firm's first. Previously, Jones had led the firm's work on
the renovation and addition to Buley Library at Southern Connecticut
State University in New Haven, serving as Project Manager.
The Branford, Conn., firm, led by the husband-wife design
team of Sandra Vlock and Glenn Arbonies, has received the
2003 Emerging Architectural Firm from AIA Connecticut.
David Cooper, P.E., CEM, has
been appointed as Managing Director of the New York office
of Flack + Kurtz. Cooper, also a member of the Flack + Kurtz
Board of Directors, has served the firm for more than 30 years,
most recently as Director in the New York office of the national
design firm. Cooper will continue to be directly involved
with clients and projects, in addition to his management role.
Robert Borg, Founder and Chairman
of Kreisler Borg Florman General Construction Company, has
earned the title of Master Builder from the Construction Institute
of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Borg has served
the industry for nearly 60 years, including landmark projects
such as Corinthian Tower, a 58-story mixed-use luxury condominium
in Manhattan and the $100-million West Queens High School
in Long Island City.
James Fahey, P.E., S.E., a
senior structural engineer with O'Dea, Lynch, Abbattista Consulting
Engineers, P.C. (OLA) has received his Illinois Structural
Engineer's License. Mr. Fahey, who received his New York State
P.E. license in 2001 recently passed the Structural II exam
which has a national pass rate of only 14%. This further extends
the structural expertise of OLA, a 50-person consulting engineering
firm located in Hawthorne, New York.
Vincent Pucillo has joined
El Taller Colaborativo, PC (ETC), as Director of Interior
Design. Pucillo brings 30 years of experience in interior
design to the full-service architectural, engineering, planning,
and construction management firm based in Newark.
Richard Dressel, business manager
of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW)
Local 164, has been honored as the Humanitarian of the Year
at the Oakland Mayor's Ball in New Jersey. The award recognizes
Dressel's ongoing support of a wide range of charitable construction
and fundraising projects throughout Bergen County.
Thomas Lukas has been named
Vice President of Operations for Garden State Brickface, Windows
& Siding, a building resurfacing and remodeling company
based in Roselle, N.J. and serving the tri-state area. Lukas
has been with the firm for 25 years, most recently serving
as Director of Operations and Operations Manager.
Einhorn Yaffee Prescott Architecture & Engineering, P.C.
(EYP) has promoted Chris Gaylord
to Associate. Gaylord is a construction supervisor, and has
worked on projects with Montclair State University, Monmouth
University, and the National Park Service. EYP Mission Critical
Facilities has promoted Richard Greco
to Director of Critical Facilities Assurance. Greco will develop
and implement new strategic initiatives and oversee the group's
finances.
Cannon Design's offices in New York have made a host of promotions
and additions. In Buffalo, the firm has added Richard
Friedson, AIA, an accomplished building designer, as
Principal. It has appointed Kevin Opp,
Carol Siracuse, AIA, and Thomas
Tyson, PE, SE, to Associate Vice President. Opp works
on marketing and corporate standards, Siracuse designs public
and higher education projects, and Tyson is a structural engineer.
Roland Coleman II, Ralph
McCormick, CIPE, and Brian Sitzman,
AIA, have been appointed to Vice President. Coleman works
on building design, McCormick on plumbing and life-safety
system design, and Sitzman on healthcare projects. In New
York, the firm has appointed Salwa
Zakhary as Associate Vice President. She is a project
manager.
Ralph Orlando, P.E., Executive
Vice President and Site Development Division Director for
Schoor DePalma, has been honored as the 2003 New Jersey Civil
Engineer of the Year by the American Society for Civil Engineers
(ASCE). In addition, Soheila Rahbari,
P.E., a Senior Project Manager for the engineering and consulting
firm, was selected as the President-Elect for the New Jersey
ASCE chapter.
Carlisle Paul, field representative
for the New York City and Vicinity Carpenters Labor Management
Cooperation Trust Fund, has been elected to the board of directors
of the Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation.
James Stenqvist, CPD, the founder
and president of the Connecticut chapter of the American Society
of Plumbing Engineers, was honored with the ASPE Region 1
Chairman's Award. Stenqvist is Chief Plumbing and Fire Protection
Engineer of Fletcher-Thompson, Inc., an architecture, engineering,
and interior design firm with offices in Connecticut and New
Jersey.
