New York Construction Top Design Firm Survey was developed to identify the design firms that are doing the most work in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut area. In addition, this survey recognizes the strength of the companies that have offices or headquarters in this region. To demonstrate that strength, we have listed firms in order of their billings for work performed around the world.

To get the information for this survey, survey forms were mailed to more than 1,500 design firms in the tri-state region. Local associations assisted us with developing this year's comprehensive list. Follow-up telephone calls were made to some firms, if surveys were not received by the deadline. All information was verified and confirmed with key executives of the responding firms.

In the survey, firms were asked to submit their total billings for all work performed on projects built in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut only. Our readers want to know how much design work was performed locally.

In addition, we asked firms to submit information about their billings for design work completed anywhere around the world. A comparison of each firm's regional and global billings tells a story about where that firm is performing.

We also asked each firm to break down its total billings by market sector so our readers can understand which are the leading firms in the different specialty areas. Those charts are published in the section.

Only the largest firms in the region made the list. Some firms chose not to submit even though they would have made the list. This was their choice.
