Parade The Top Forty
Construction Projects of 2002
The following pages contain photographs and brief descriptions
of each of the "Top Forty" construction projects
completed the tri-state area in 2002.
They range from major infrastructure work, such as the completion
of the AirTrain to John F. Kennedy International Airport and
the renovation of 22 miles of the Palisades Interstate Parkway,
to impressive new hotels, office and residential towers on
both sides of the Hudson and in Connecticut.
Significantly, the saga of 2002 also includes two major reconstruction
efforts - the recovery and clean up operation at the site
of the World Trade Center and the rapid reconstruction of
the Cortlandt Street Station under the site - both of which
stand as tributes to the power and determination of our region's
construction industry.
These "Top Projects" are rated by how much they
cost to build. Size and expense does, after all, matter in
the largest and wealthiest metropolitan area in the United
States.
Yet size is only part of our industry's accomplishment last
year. As the following pages will make clear, taken together
these projects tell a remarkable story of creativity, ingenuity
and hard work. The design, engineering and construction feats
accomplished last year in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut
are truly staggering.
We at New York Construction News congratulate all the team
members who worked together to bring these projects into the
world. At the same time, we congratulate our entire industry
on a truly impressive body of work in 2002.
