50th Anniversary
A City for All New Yorkers

What is it going to be like in New York City in 2029? I have every expectation that New York City will be poised in 2029 to make leaps forward in infrastructure investment like those that started 100 years before in 1929. I fully expect that by 2029 we will have done the things for Manhattan that everyone talks about: the East Side Access project, the 2nd Avenue subway, access to the Region's core and the Manhattan leg of the Third Water Tunnel.

In 2029 we will finally and formally recognize that there's more to New York City and its economy than Manhattan.

In 2029, I expect we'll have freight tunnels that reach Brooklyn, Staten Island, and The Bronx, so that we cut down on truck traffic and expedite economic development. We'll finish all the legs of the Third Water Tunnel and build the redundancy we all need. And we'll build waterfront parks in the Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn that will outshine the Riverside Park of Manhattan, a project started in 1929.

Why can I see these things? Because we're a city for all New Yorkers, and that theme, by 2029, will bring the projects that will allow the "other boroughs" think that they're part of the City, too.
