50th Anniversary

'Capital of the World'

The events which occurred on September 11, 2001 forever changed our lives.

In the years ahead, downtown will maintain its reputation as the world's
preeminent financial center; become a historical, cultural, and business
destination, but most importantly, a place of honor and remembrance for the victims of September 11th.

Lower Manhattan will combine a victim's memorial, commercial and cultural development with greater integrated access to the entire downtown area. This access will not just occur above ground, but below ground as well.

Infrastructure improvements will allow downtown to become a transportation hub for tourists and commuters alike. It will encourage people to live downtown and provide businesses - large and small - with the support and tools they need to thrive and grow in the 21st century.

New York has a storied history and have met past challenges with great success. This has not happened by any coincidence and in the years that follow, we will rebuild our city so that it remains what it is rightfully called today, the "Capital of the World."
